The rates of extinction and evolution in the Cretaceous. This project, in collaboration with Tim Bralower (Penn State) is focused on refining the Cretaceous time scale by dating bentonites (altered volcanic ash) in the Great Valley Sequence of northern California. The turbidites deposited here have a rich micro- and macrofossil assemblage and plentiful intercalated ash deposits.
